Monarch #30 In Top 50 Most Beautiful Business Schools of the World

UGSM-Monarch Business School was recently listed one of the Top 50 most beautiful business schools in the world at #30 by Top Management Degrees.

“The UGSM-Monarch Business School describes its residence at Schloss Muhlenhof in the village of Wohlen, Switzerland as “very beautiful.” And judging from its exterior, we think the assessment is fair. The grand building dates back to 1859, when it was constructed by a grain merchant, although it has been revamped since then to bring it up to date and meet the needs of a 21st-century business school. Furthermore, although it looks too pretty for students ever to want to leave, those looking to make a quick getaway can take advantage of the building’s close proximity to the local rail station.”

View The Journal | Archive Page | Volume 1, Issue 1

The goal of The Monarch Management Review is to provide a vehicle for both the faculty and guest authors of UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland to publish scholarly work in journal form to help advance the field of management research. It provides an opportunity for its authors to act as “thought-leaders” within the field of management scholarship. The Monarch Management Review is considered an open publication where authors are encouraged to submit articles covering traditional and non-traditional subjects on a wide-range of interests within the domain of management study and economics. Interdisciplinary articles are also greatly appreciated. The Review will be published on a semi-annual basis.

New Researcher Contribution Program

Unique to the Monarch Management Review is the launch of the New Researcher Contribution Program, where existing doctoral candidates and recent graduates with less than 5 years from graduation may submit articles for publications. This program is meant to specifically highlight the exciting work of young scholars and provide the critical avenue for publication that is often difficult for new researchers to find.

Volume 2, Issue 1

The second Volume of the Monarch Management Review will be published April, 2012 and is presently taking submissions. Interested parties should send their manuscripts to mmr@ugsm-monarch.com.

Doctor of Economics Announced

UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland announces the creation of the new Doctor of Economics course-based program that will compliment the thesis-only Doctor of Philosophy in Economics program. The Program Director is Dr. Dimitris Koumparoulis.

Previously, candidates wishing to complete a Doctorate in Economics at Monarch Business School could only do so through the thesis-only stream, D.Phil., and students were required to hold a Master degree in Economics before entering. The new program opens up a course-based study for candidates that may come from either economics or other related fields, such as finance or accounting.

The Dean of Studies, Dr. Henderson, was quoted as saying:

“The new Doctor of Economics program is focused on the professional practitioner as opposed to the academic orientation of the D.Phil. in Economics. This opens up the study of Economics at the Doctoral level for many new students who might feel that they would benefit from additional course-based studies before embarking on the dissertation stage. With the experience of the Doctor of Economics degree these candidates are set to return to their professional activities with renewed confidence and pride in their accomplishment.”

The new Doctor of Economics program includes six (6) economics courses, a research methodology course for economics, the completion of a research proposal and ultimately the doctoral dissertation. The courses and stages of the program offered include:

  • Stage 1: Course-Work
    • Course #1: Eco-610-Principles of Economics
    • Course #2: Eco-615-Microeconomic Theory
    • Course #3: Eco-620-Macroeconomic Theory
    • Course #4: Eco-625-Economics of Development
    • Course #5: Eco-630-Mathematics for Economics
    • Course #6: Eco-635-Political Economy & International Economics of the Firm
  • Stage 2: Dissertation Development
    • Course: Research Methods For Economics
    • Perfection of the Research Proposal
    • Submission of the Doctoral Dissertation

Within the program each candidate is required to complete a dissertation that focuses on a topic of interest within the domain of economic practice contributing to new practical knowledge in the field. Dissertations are typically between 60,000 and 80,000 words.

Dr. Albert Eger (Left) and Dr. Henderson (Right) In Attendance At The 2011 Greenbuild Conference Toronto

Greenbuild is the world largest conference and expo dedicated to green building now celebrating its 10th anniversary. The conference started with an opening plenary at the Air Canada Centre hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) along with the Canada Green Building Council. Guest speakers included, NY Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize-winner, Thomas Friedman, speaking about the necessity of the green revolution,

“We’re not having a green revolution (right now); we’re having a green party. In revolutions, people get hurt – companies are forced to change or they die.” He said, “Our revolution will be here when the word green disappears…..The challenge we have today is that we must become the regeneration.”

Friedman also touched on consumer demand and how chain reaction can occur from rising food prices to political instability to rising oil prices to eventual collapse of the world we know. Professors Eger and Henderson by attending the conference echo Friedman’s sentiments and restate the dedication that Monarch has to the importance of educating the business leaders of today and tomorrow to incorporate positive changes into their business models so that they can marry both future security for the planet and profitability for companies while keeping a strong moral and ethical orientation.

Program Validation & Dual Degree Announcement

UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland and Universidad Azteca recently announced a cooperation and validation agreement  to offer dual degrees across their respective Master and Doctoral programs.

The recently signed agreement will allow students from either UGSM-Monarch Business School Switzerland or Universidad Azteca to register in the reciprocal program of the partner university. Upon successful graduation of their home program students will receive the equivalent degree from the partner university.

The agreement is seen as a significant step forward for both institutions in further internationalizing their program offerings and degrees.
